Death of a dear friend

Canon Andrew White - the Vicar of BaghdadGreetings from Baghdad. I am afraid that late last night something awful happened. My dear friend Nicholas Khuri phoned to say there was no reaction from his dear wife Theresa. She was a dear dear friend and supporter. She had very serious MS. I told Nicholas to search for a carotid pulse and when he could not find it, he called the ambulance to take her to hospital. When she arrived, she had no cardiac output.

I am therefore returning back to the UK ASAP to be with the family. Please pray for Nicholas and his dear daughters. Nicholas and his family loved dear Theresa like I have never seen before. When she was increasingly ill they just loved her, loved her and loved her. So I will now leave Iraq in great sadness, we will then take her back to Princeton NJ to be buried, so I will be going there as well.

  1. We are never told not to grieve, but we are told not to grieve as others who have no hope. My personal condolences to all touched by this sad event. In similar circumstances I found the following words from Isaiah supportive. “Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour”

  2. Andrew, My condolences to you all on the death of your dear Theresa. Let us rejoice that she is home in the arms of the Lord, and take comfort from the truth of Christ’s love for us that He is with Nicholas and all of you all in the agony of your loss. Charles has already given you the words of Isaiah which also came into my heart. Praise be to God! May the Holy Spirit guide you and protect you, giving you strength as you travel, dear brother in Christ.
