A Baghdad Sunset – January 2014

Update 2 December 2013

Andrew, 2 December 2013Dear Friends,

Greeting and blessings from Baghdad. I am sorry that I have not written properly since I had my stem cell treatment last week. I responded very badly to the treatment, which I presumed was caused by the two litres of plasma I lost in the harvesting of the stem cells.

I managed to take the services this weekend but felt awful so this morning I had my blood checked in the clinic and my haemoglobin is only 9 and not 16 as usual so I am very anaemic.

I have so much work to do to make arrangements for the visit of the Bishop next week and the upcoming meeting of all our religious and political leaders in Cyprus. I am just about to start an iron infusion, please pray.

Blessings.

Update 25 November 2013

Dear Friends,

Greetings from Baghdad.

Whilst the Western world is preparing for the joys and celebrations of Christmas I have to confess there has not even been any mention of the event here apart from the Spiritual. Here the simple concern is how will we get through today. How will we keep away from the continuing violence?

The violence and tragedies of scores of people being murdered each day continue. In the last weeks we expressed concern that the stories here are not even being covered by the press and the BBC say there is compassion fatigue about Iraq. Now as we move towards a national election, the Iraqi Government is also trying to cover up the reality of the escalating violence to increase the chance of the re-election of the current government.

So the reality is that as we approach Christmas we face more danger, violence and poverty than ever. The world has forgotten our immense need and it is harder than ever to get support for Iraq. But there is one thing that we will never forget here and that is: “love came down at Christmas love all lovely love divine.” That is the only thing that keeps us going, that Love came down, its’ name is Jesus and He has never left us.

Can I also ask for your prayers for my next stem cell treatment that will take place tomorrow? The last one did not work as we could not get enough blood.

Thank you all for your prayers.

Update from Jerusalem

Canon Andrew with Rabbi Michael Melchiorr

Canon Andrew with Rabbi Michael Melchior

What a day it was in Jerusalem yesterday. Meetings, meetings and meetings. With the most senior political and religious Jewish leaders. Talking about major meetings between major leaders from here and Iraq. It is going to be so significant to have Jews, Christians, Shia and Sunni all together. We pray for G-d’s direction and supernatural intervention.

The picture on the left is me with my dear Friend Rabbi Michael Melchior the former Government Minister in Jerusalem. Such a wonderful time I love him, G-d loves him and we have so many huge things planned.

Today, I am just off to the Garden Tomb to take a service for 350 people with Benny Hinn. We all need to see G-d’s resurrection Glory. I so need it today and I beg your prayer for a major life changing situation for all our people in Iraq that we are working on today.

Grace, Peace and Blessings,

Canon Andrew White - the Vicar of Baghdad

Update 29 April 2013

Dear Friends,

Today I must confess I started work at 01.30 but I had had 3 hours sleep so managed. I had two miraculous answers to prayer, but the one not yet answered I confess was causing me great anguish. It is always an issue that causes me great pain even though I know the Lord always provides. It is simply the issue of money. Not being able to provide for my family, staff or church always causes me great anguish even though I know our Lord always provides.

I left Baghdad at 7.30 am this morning because I was returning to England via Turkey. The stop over in Turkey is about 7 hours and is usually very monotonous but not this time. I met with some of our many people now living in Turkey. I married two of our people and baptised a baby. Most of our people live a long way from a church or city. They travelled ten hours today so they could meet me near the airport. After yesterdays pain of people leaving it was good to have a day of joy amongst those who have left.

I did not make clear yesterday in my Facebook posts that despite so many people leaving us the church has not shrunk in size we have been joined by so many people from other places and this includes several hundred Muslims, so we still do have much to give thanks for. This week will mainly be spent in a variety of meetings, beginning tomorrow with our board meeting at the house of Lords. We still urgently need your prayers that we will have enough funds to function properly in Baghdad next month. At the moment we not even have enough for the Clinic to function next month. So please do pray for our third miracle.

Blessings and love,

Canon Andrew White - the Vicar of Baghdad
